Amey, one of the UK’s leading public and regulated services providers has appointed Dr Rick Robinson as the new Group IT Director for Smart Data and Technology.

Rick will report into Amey’s CIO, Darryl Salmons, and will take responsibility for leading the development of new smart data solutions and technologies.  Rick will work with new and existing clients to understand how to use smart data to achieve financial, social and environmental objectives.

In his former role as Executive Architect for IBM, Dr Robinson worked closely with Local Authorities to develop solutions using technologies such as Cloud Computing, social media and the Internet of Things.

Darryl Salmons, CIO for Amey says: “We are delighted to welcome Rick to Amey.  He has a global reputation for driving forward innovative thinking to deliver tangible benefits, his expertise will certainly help us achieve our business wide goals and support the urban innovation agenda.”

Rick comments: “Amey already has a reputation for innovation and I’m looking forward to working with the team to build on this, developing and delivering innovative services for our clients that will support their needs and those of the citizens and businesses they support.”

Over the past 10 years, Rick has worked in a number European based roles focusing on Smart City objectives.  His knowledge and expertise in this area has resulted in Rick being appointed to the UK Government’s Smart Cities Forum as well as a number of advisory boards of universities, businesses and professional bodies.  He delivers talks nationally and internationally as well as providing advice to both governments and renowned institutions such as the World Bank and United Nations.

This appointment is the latest in a number of strategic moves by Amey to strengthen capability and expertise in the innovation arena; and further signifies the business’ commitment to bringing international expertise to the UK market. Ferrovial Services’ global Centre of Excellence for Cities has also recently implemented its UK organisation to provide innovative models and solutions to Amey’s local government business.
