Royal House of Saene #3

His Captive Princess

Rate this book
Isha Saene has perfected the act of balancing her life—a celebrated corporate negotiator spearheading an international trade deal that could catapult her country to one of the fastest growing mid-sized economies in Africa, and a loyal First Princess of Bagumi Kingdom set to seal ties with a neighbouring nation through marriage.

Until one careless moment knocks her carefully choreographed life into chaos.

Zain Bassong has always fought for the underdog—a patriot dedicated to fighting against the oppression of his people by the country's elite. He believes the pen is mightier than the sword and chooses the diplomatic route, no matter how many times he is arrested by the repressive regime.

Until devastating news triggers a chain reaction.

Isha and Zain are thrown together and their lives change. For better or worse? They will have to figure that out before it’s too late.

The story starts about ten years in the past where Isha Saene, an impressionable college freshman disguised as a commoner, falls head over heels in love with a man ten years her senior. Fortunately for her, the feelings are mutual, and she starts a relationship with him. The fact that he’s a commoner and she has a state marriage in her future does not matter - until it does. Sadly, the fairytale doesn’t last and both are left with scars.

When they reunite ten years later, Isha is Zain’s captive, a pawn he intends to leverage to his advantage (for a good cause). However, nothing is what it seems and they both discover new things about their past that have huge implications for their future.

I enjoyed meeting Isha as a young girl, innocent and yet strong and passionate, and seeing her growth over the course of the story. Although Zain was much older at the start of the story, he also had some growing to do and lessons to learn.

Both Zain and Isha are well-rounded characters. Zain was definitely alpha, but Isha was a perfect match, and the passion between them sizzles. I enjoyed reading a romantic suspense with authentic portrayal of political and cultural issues in West Africa. Although that formed a good portion of the story, it didn’t overshadow the romance.

His Captive Princess is a great conclusion to the story of the princesses of Bagumi. I highly recommend it.

I love Princess Isha. This princess didn’t conform to the role set out for her. No, she was adventurous, bold and wouldn’t take no for an answer. My kinda of heroine.
The story starts off in London. An undercover princess and her law professor with a secret kinky side to him.
A disruption in the love they found brings them both back to Africa. He a rebel fighting for justice for his people, and her, his captive, a pawn in his plan to take down an evil and repressive government.
A few dangerous twists and turns and some gut wrenching revelations after, they reunite passionately.
A well told story.

I loved all 3 books in this series.

1) His Defiant Princess by Nana Prah
2) His Inherited Princess by Empi Baryeh
3) His Captive Princess by Kiru Taye

I recommend if you like princess/royalty stories with a tropical/African feel to it.

Isha, the first princess of Bagumi, is not someone to mess with. She’s amazing! Strong, confident, adventurous, intelligent, and loyal. Zain is her counterpart in every way. He wants the best, not only for his people, but especially for Isha. They make the perfect power couple. They experience a ton of hardships to get there, but their journey is totally worth it.

It is always a pleasure reading Ms. Taye’s exceptional writing style. She tends to get spicy with her books, but this one was tamer than others that I’ve read from her. Not to say it didn’t get hot, though.

This was a wonderful tale that took us from the UK to a real West African country and then to fictitious West African countries. The trip was incredible. Romance at its best.

I'm so in love with Zain and his Ruby and his M’orae, Princess Isha. I love the vows that they had declared to one another, “I claim you with my heart and my body,” and “And I claim you with my mind and my soul,” that brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad that President Doona and Kweku got what they deserved for their treacherous acts. I love the relationship between Isha and Zik. He really had her back in more ways than one. I want to read more about Kojo and Joanna, Princess Amara, and Zik. It's good that Zain and Princess Isha got their HEA.

This is a heart wrenching read and talks a little about genocide (sensitive readers beware) but marvellous put together. I love that Isha had an influence on Zain which influences him. Funny, he decided to be a rebel as an adult.
