FAQs about hotels in Budapest

A City of Two Halves

With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.

Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it offers the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.

Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try this than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.

To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur, while based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

With an impressive range of Budapest hotels, apartments and hostels on offer in this city of 2 halves, Booking.com makes your choice completely easy.

    Budapest is a great city.

Budapest is a great city. We could only go in the middle of summer, when it's very hot, but if (when) I go back I'd rather go in the shoulder seasons. Things I'd do next time 1. Get on the public transport app for Budapest ( https://bkk.hu/) & get a 15 day ticket, no frills. It's cheaper than the 24/48/72 etc. hour tourist passes that are only worth while if you visit x3 museums a day 2. Wear good lace up walking shoes/trainers with plenty of support. It's a very walkable city and you'll really get a feel for it What I recommend; 3. The vintage tram runs on the weekends and is cheap as chips ( €1.50) to get a ride on. you can get a ticket at https://bkk.hu/ which is your transport app, or pay the ticket inspector on the tram, but you'll need local currency, in cash, for that. 4. Buda is the beautiful quiet side, Pest is party central 5. Folk went on about Budapest being cheap.... it isn't really, but it's not expensive either. As an Irish person, accommodation was affordable, food & souvenirs same price as my home town, the fabled cheap beer seems to be in the late night bars trying to pull young punters 6. The Szecheny baths are not a tourist trap, they're real, and worth the hype.

We definitely preferred the Buda side over Pest — it had a unique charm that stood out. Surprisingly, Budapest isn’t particularly budget-friendly for tourists. On the positive side, it’s absolutely a must-see destination for travel enthusiasts.

Everyone I spoke to spoke English. Very friendly. Good value food and drink with some marvelous bars. Stunning architecture but too many needed repair. Could only get taxi with an app but they came quickly. Unfortunately did get a bag snatched by a street person, which the police seem to ignore, even though they are very obviously targeting tourists the moment they step off the excellent airport bus.

Good place to crash for the night. Nice cosy little room even if it's not the most comfortable. Location while not in the city centre at least is on Metro line 3 and on a railway line to Budapest Nyugati and the East of Hungary and the 200E bus route to the airport. Also good clear instructions on checking in out of hours.
