White House adjusts transcript to make sure you know President Trump can make more than tap-ins

July 27, 2017

The White House Press Office has to cover a lot of ground these days, what with healthcare in flux, and sanctions on Russia to discuss, not to mention various ongoing investigations. But there's also the matter of President Trump's proficiency with the flatstick.

Consider, for instance, this line in new White House director of communications Anthony Scaramucci's introductory remarks to the press. While outlining the president's athletic prowess, it sounds as if Scaramucci details Trump's rather pedestrian ability to make three-foot putts.

As the best golfer to ever occupy the White House, a single-digit handicap, and multiple-time club champion, it's fair to say Trump's ability to make three-foot putts has never been in question. Heck, even Obama could make three-footers and he was pretty much a chop by comparison. But as noted by Daily Show producer Matt Negrin and the folks at Deadspin, this is NOT what Scaramucci said, or at least not according to the official White House transcript, which has Scaramucci saying he's seen the President make 30-foot putts.
