DETROIT, MI - It's not yet official, but Mark Wahlberg has revealed the locations of two future Michigan Wahlburgers.
The actor and co-owner of the burger franchise made a surprise appearance at Michigan's only Wahlburgers in Downtown Detroit's Greektown on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. He took pictures with fans and talked to WXYZ and WJBK.
Wahlberg told FOX 2's Taryn Asher the plans are to open a restaurant somewhere in Taylor and one at 13 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak. Asher says Wahlberg will be back in Detroit in a few weeks to make an official announcement.
"I've had wonderful experiences working here," Wahlberg told Asher. "Such great hard working people. To be able to share my family experience with all of the people in Detroit and their families, it's a blessing."
Wahlberg also praised his work with Dan Gilbert and Gilbert's commitment to the city. "I really have to give my friend Dan Gilbert, who's our landlord here, a lot of credit. He's been doing so much to develop the city of Detroit."
The surprise appearance in Detroit on Wednesday comes one day after the actor was spotted all over Grand Rapids. He told WXYZ's Brad Galli he had a great meeting with Meijer. What that meeting was about has not yet been revealed. Meantime, Wahlberg also says he hopes to shoot more movies here.
Wahlberg spent a lot of time in Michigan in 2016 filming "Transformers: The Last Knight," which is in theaters on June 23, 2017. "Yep, absolutely. Many more. Many more. Hopefully we'll be able to continue to bring more movies here."
"There's so many talented people here. It's great to bring these jobs and opportunities here. You have so many locations and so many places. You have the city, the country ... you have a great mix."
