When it came time to redo the red walls and carpeted floors of her outdated bathroom, blogger Katie knew she wanted the final product to have a chic farmhouse feel.

To save money, she and her husband did most of the labor. They pulled up the carpet, painted the concrete floor, and installed shiplap on the wall behind the vanity. The sconces over the mirrors are outdoor lanterns, snagged at a bargain of $30 each. The carrera marble vanity is a Craigslist find Katie updated with chalk paint.

The couple hired professionals to install the glass shower and its subway and herringbone tile, purchased from a discount tile and flooring warehouse.

Katie crafted the curtains from six yards of burlap (scored with a coupon for $12) and a pair of twin-sized flat sheets. The couple purchased their tub, from eBay, at a discount thanks to its "slightly imperfect" condition. (The tub's blemishes are on the side facing the wall, making them practically imperceptible.)

Finishing touches such as the large blue rug, "fruit crate" vanity tray, antique succulent planter, and a pair of towel-holding metal crates give this space just the right amount of rustic charm.
