Cooler and breezy conditions will be in place across South Florida for much of the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, if will be mostly sunny Friday with a high only in the mid 70s. And it will be breezy. Winds will be from the northeast at 8 to 16 mph — with gusts up to 21 mph.

There is a moderate risk of rip currents at all area beaches.

Conditions will be similar on Saturday and Sunday.

Interesting temperature tidbit: The highest temperatures around the country on Thursday were recorded in Fort Lauderdale and in Pompano Beach, both at 89 degrees. The lowest recorded temperature yesterday was minus 24 in Hallock, Minnesota.

It’s February. So, that means the only person looking ahead to the upcoming hurricane season is retired NWS meteorologist Jim Lushine: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has announced that the La Nina conditions that have existed for the past six months have ended, making it one of the shortest on record. This could certainly be good news for South Florida during the next hurricane season, as some long-range models indicate a return to El Nino by fall which can suppress hurricane activity.
