NDP REALITY CHECK: New Minister of Veterans Affairs – what better way to start a mandate than with failure?

‏@ErinOTooleMP After some initial meetings I spent my 1st day as MVA calling & listening to leading veterans organizations starting with the @RCL_DC -January 6, 2015

Ah, remember those heady times not six days ago when Canada’s new Minister of Veterans Affairs reached out to give a warm embrace to Canadian veterans?

The Minister even responded on Twitter with this message to one of Canada’s leading veterans organizations, Canadians Veterans Advocacy:

‏@ErinOTooleMP @CanadianVetsAdv - Left a msg on your voicemail. Look forward to connecting before too long.

Interesting news from the Hill Times about what was in that voicemail:

“Newly-appointed Veterans Affairs Minister Erin O’Toole has informed an advocacy group for wounded and psychologically injured veterans that it is no longer a stakeholder adviser to the Veterans Affairs department” Hill Times, January 12, 2015

When Julian Fantino upset veterans, he at least had the good grace to do it in person and not with a voicemail.

Canadians deserve better.
