PM Lee releases cabinet minister Chan Chun Sing to NTUC

Cabinet minister Chan Chun Sing has joined the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) at its request.

The move was announced on Friday afternoon, after the labour movement revealed it’d written a letter to PM Lee asking for Mr. Chan’s release from the Cabinet.

PM Lee posted his reply on Facebook, saying, “Tripartism is a key asset of Singapore, and Chun Sing has a contribution to make.”

He agreed to release Mr. Chan immediately on a part-time basis and full-time from April 1, 2015.

45-year-old Mr. Chan will take Mr. Lim Swee Say before Mr. Lim turns 62 in July next year.

“From now Chun Sing will continue in MSF (and MINDEF, where he is Second Minister). But he will leave gaps when he goes over to NTUC full-time. I will announce Cabinet changes to fill the vacancies after the Budget session. Both Chun Sing and Swee Say will remain in Cabinet,” PM Lee wrote.
