Vineland police charged a city man after receiving a tip about a reckless driver.

VINELAND - Police charged a 29-year-old city man with driving while intoxicated after they received a tip about a reckless driver.

Juan Carlos Gonzalez Martinez of the first block of West Chestnut Avenue was arrested May 19 after almost striking a car as he pulled out of the Chestnut Square Apartments, police said.

A witness followed the vehicle and alerted officers the driver was all over the roadway, according to police reports.

Officers located the driver in the vehicle at Chestnut Avenue and Main Road. Open alcoholic beverage containers were found in the vehicle, police said.

After failing field sobriety tests, Martinez was taken to the police station where a breath test measured his blood alcohol content at more than twice the legal limit, police said.

He was cited for reckless driving, unlicensed driver, and possessing opened alcoholic containers in a vehicle.

Martinez, wanted on a warrant, was turned over to Bridgeton Police.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement were also notified of his arrest.

A court date is pending for Martinez in Vineland Municipal Court.
