The cold snap that's descended upon Metro Vancouver this week is also being felt - and how - in northern parts of the province. With temps as low as - 17.5C in the Bella Coola area, it's no wonder sea spray hitting the deck of the BC Ferries vessel Nimpkish froze on contact, turning vehicles into giant ice sculptures.
As the Nimpkish left Bella Bella for Bella Coola this weekend on the Discovery Coast Connector route, the small-capacity vessel faced freezing conditions.
Deckhand Todd Nickless captured and shared images of the crazy sight. "Not your average day on the Mighty Nimpkish sailing from Bella Bella to Bella Coola," he captioned his Facebook post, which has been shared hundreds of times across the social media platform.

Nickless' colleague, deckhand Travis Young, told Black Press Media about the harrowing journey and the unusual icy experience, describing conditions like in a movie, waves freezing on the deck, and having to scrape ice off the windshield so their captain could see.
