Southern Black Policy and Advocacy Network Announces
2021 LEVEL UP: Capacity Building and Leadership Training Initiative

DALLAS, Texas (May 21, 2021) – The Southern Black Policy & Advocacy Network (SBPAN) is proud to announce the creation of the 2021 LEVEL UP: Capacity Building and Leadership Training Initiative (LEVEL UP).  LEVEL UP is a three-month Capacity Building and Leadership Training Initiative geared towards engaging executive directors, development staff, grant writers, managers, and people living with HIV to enhance their organizational capacity related to project management, grant development/writing, and community engagement. HIV leaders can apply for the Leadership Cohort here. 2021 LEVEL UP has been made possible through the generous support of Theratechnologies.

2021 LEVEL UP will kick off with its first webinar on May 27th from 2:00 - 3:30 pm (CST) entitled “Sustainability After COVID-19”. This webinar is open to the public, and will feature organization leaders: Dr. DeMarc Hickson (Us Helping Us), Marissa Miller (Trans Solutions Research & Resource Center) and Larry Walker (THRIVE SS) discussing their experiences leading HIV work through the COVID-19 pandemic. Register for the “Sustainability After COVID-19” Webinar here.

“As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative that HIV leaders reinvest in their capacity to enhance organizational sustainability through effective development, project, and organization management best practices,” said SBPAN founder and CEO Venton Hill-Jones. “ The LEVEL UP: Capacity Building and Leadership Training Initiative provides the perfect opportunity for HIV leaders to continue to learn best practices as well as develop in a wide range of areas. Being able to improve leadership best practices and organizational infrastructure is critical if we are going to meet the ambitious goals of ending HIV by 2030 in the United States.”

Applications for the Leadership Cohort are due Friday, June 4, 2021 by 4:59 PM CST. All information is confidential, and 75 applicants will be announced Friday, June 18, 2021. Leadership Cohort members will be provided with the opportunity to expand HIV knowledge as well as provide best practices for building organizational capacity, enhancing their organizational capacity via a second webinar and a virtual summit.
