voxel records news #6 january 2015
greetings, voxel follower!

voxel wishes a happy new year to everyone! once again we are here to bring you a selection of fresh new sounds from the overflowing world of underground music. apart from ensuring that some of our own artists threw something into the ring this month, we were also looking for stuff that was original and/or experimental, but still accessible for many music fans. beware though, because we can still throw you a curve-ball at any time!

maze-car-trust-me
a new mix of maze car's meat street dog star is now available, and can still be downloaded FREE for a limited period! this track (or something very like it) will be part of maze car's next single, due for release before the spring time. it is an exploration of dubtronica and is stuffed with plenty of groovy bass, beats and distorted retro sounds. we hope you like the latest offering!
voxel founders varjak have produced a remix of technocolour. this track was written and recorded a few years back, but now it has been treated to some of the new sounds available in the red-six studio arsenal, all sweetened with mel's lovely vocals. further remixes are planned for the coming year, and maybe even some new material. watch this space for updates!
Rand vs USD by jujumen - there is a "vintage synth only" remit for the jujumen productions, and this is evident right from the start of this track. a groovy glitch shuffle makes you want to get moving from the get-go, even before the wiry retro lead riffs kick in. it is certainly oakey-esque terms of both melody and timbre, but there are complex parts beneath that are more derived from funk than 80s synth-pop. altogether this is an uplifting tune made from cool, invigorating sounds - we are truly covetous of the kit in your studio!
headstrong by the droids - this duo from north carolina have honed a style that is definitely derived from roots in indie-rock, and their current project develops this background to work well with more synth-oriented music. there is a deep, dark and confident passion expressed not only through sarah anne's strong yet sensitive vocals, but also the skillfully arranged rhythms and accompaniments of edgy, well-sculpted synth sounds. this crossover style is well worth a listen and should appeal to a broad spectrum of indietronica fans.
cubism by JBCFTK - this is a tune driven by its delay-effected high-register synth lead. the melody and its sweetly distorted texture give the track an uplifting and balearic feel, but the percussion template is more adventurous than the traditional four-to-the-floor one might expect from house or disco. the intelligent bass-line and evolving lead parts provide nuances of the night club, but as a whole the composition creates its own individual genre.
