“This is the story of a good girl and a bad boy who can’t fight their feelings for one another and end up changing just enough to meet in the middle."

An uptight accountant meets her match with a playboy bartender in the dirtiest club in town.

THIS BOOK IS NOT ABOUT ADULTERY.

Ally Taylor turns out the lights of her office, catches a cab to the seamy side of town, and slides onto a barstool at Felony Bar, a notorious underground club. The bartender, Jack Jameson, slides a gin and tonic across the counter before she says a word because he already knows what she likes. His broad shoulders, tattoos, and dreamy dark eyes promise everything missing from her life. Spontaneity. Promiscuity. Adventure. When Jack nods toward a secret door, she follows. She wants to taste him, feel him, use him to forget all the pain of her broken engagement.

One-night stands are a dime a dozen at Felony Bar, but Jack’s not a kid anymore, and he’s tired of waking up in someone else’s bed. Ally’s calm and cool control fuels the animal inside him. He yearns to break that control, to get a taste of the passion lurking inside her. In spite of his playboy ways, he wants more than sex, more than temporary, more than meaningless. Can he find what he needs in Ally?

When love comes calling, they may not have a choice.

R A T I N G: 2 stars to Intoxicated ★ ★ 2

Intoxicated by Jeana E. Mann is a contemporary romance between a wily, womanising bartender and caution-seeking, control-centred accountant. Both are very different as characters, with completely different lives and values, so I suppose you could say that this Is very much a case of opposites attract with Jack Jameson promising Ally everything she isn’t. Ally is caught between thrill and caveat, waving a red flag and wanting to surrender, but ultimately she won’t ever be made a fool of by any man again, so how can she trust the principles of a man who appears to have none? I didn't understand what our heroine found so utterly irresistible about Jack, he was about as appealing as a random stranger at best. At worst, he hid a big secret and acted the victim. I'm not really sure what the heroine found so appealing about him.

I’m not sure how to describe my thought or feelings on this one. I’m especially stuck in that liminal space of struggling to put into words what went wrong. I felt bad for Ally, she doesn’t have many people to call friends or family and I felt second-hand upset for her familial struggle - she deserved much better than the family she was born into. Jack’s character? I really didn’t know whether I liked him or not. I think I leaned more towards not liking him. He seemed more likeable toward the end of the book, and his backstory isn't reassuring (the multiple pregnancy thing put me off). There weren’t many characters that I took to; there were more I didn’t like than those that I did. And with those that I did, I didn’t particularly like them a lot either.

To some, this might be a great, very likeable story, but for me it wasn’t particularly attractive, and I had to get through it with a hearty amount of attention. To my trepidation I found myself circulating a very telling thought, the one that every reader dreads: when can I move onto another book. *Buries head* I didn’t find the romance I was looking for and I didn’t like the involvement of Jack’s ex. Jack was manwhore material without engaging in the error of his ways. There is still a lot of mystery with regard to Ally’s parents so that left me confused about what really happened there.

The beginning was ok, as was the end, but the bulk of the story failed to hold my attention. I wouldn’t sideline this just because I didn’t particularly like it though. Reader experience is always an individual thing so, as always, I’d recommend giving a try. For me though, this was a big thumbs down. I didn't have any big feelings for this one, and that for me either makes or breaks a connection.

Trigger Warning : Swearing, alcohol consumption, mentions drug abuse and drug dealing and previous miscarriages. With one disclosed sex scene- the rest non-disclosed but lots of saucyness.

I don't care if he can tell you what you were wearing the first time he saw you...he is an unrepentant manwhore who owns it and his wife is pregnant...no thank you!

And lets talk about what a hypocrite the Hero is...he gets mad that the heroine tells him her mother is dead (they don't talk, haven't seen each other in years, and in all essence the mother is dead to her). Goes off on her about lying to him BUT he keeps the fact that his wife (soon to be ex) is PREGNANT! smh....

I only want to know if the baby is actually his...

3.5 pleased but not blown away stars for Intoxicated. The story is pretty easy to understand in that the heroine is a bit uptight, like the stereotypical accountant is, and the bartender, also essentially the nightclub's owner, is confident, overly sexual, and a manslut. The two live out the old saying that opposites attract. The ending is a bit dull which lost half a star and the kind of lack of sucking me right in lost a full star.

I was really hoping to like this more than I did and part of me can't really pinpoint what wasn't working for me.

I guess I felt like Jack wasn't that great. Ally was really into him and I didn't see the appeal. First of all, the reasoning behind his nickname for Ally was irritating and if a guy said that to me, I'd probably hit him, not swoon. Secondly, he was a known player that never saw how that was an off-putting quality. He just decided he didn't want to be alone for the rest of his life and figured Ally would suffice (at least that's the way it came off to me). Then there was that major detail about his life that he failed to share. Oh, and he stayed on his best friend's couch. What a catch.

Ally, was okay, I guess. There were times when she would randomly bring up jack's philandering ways, which was unnecessary because she knew his past when she met him. If she couldn't handle it, she should have looked for a different guy. Luckily, this didn't happen too much.

There were times when their relationship was really sweet, but there were other times where I just didn't see the appeal.

I won this book from Goodreads and really appreciate the author sharing her work with me!

I’m always perusing the “Sponsored Ads” to see what might catch my eye, and I’m so glad I did as that’s where I found this little gem. Unfortunately there were no reviews or ratings posted, but after reading the synopsis, which intrigued me, I thought I’d take a chance. (I mean hell, I’ve taken many chances on novels with plenty of five-star ratings that just weren’t my cup of tea, but I digress.) So with a click of a button I started reading “Intoxicated,” and didn’t let up until I got to the very end. It was that good. Plus it was easy as it’s only 204 pages making the story not too long or too short. It was just right.

“Intoxicated” is Jeana E. Mann’s (“Mann”) debut novel which I believe to be a winner. It’s an engaging story full of romance and passion with plenty of hot, steamy sex. At the heart of the story is Jack and Ally, two intriguing characters you’ll fall in love with. Jack doesn’t do relationships instead opting for a life full of one-night stands. However, lately he’s feeling more alone than ever, which in turn has him thinking more and more about having a serious relationship, and the girl he wants is Ally. Dumped by her fiancée after eight years, Ally finds it hard to believe that Jack would want anything more than a one-night stand with her. However, the more time they spend together, the more Jack realizes he wants this relationship to work. At the same time Ally realizes she never really did love her ex, that she deserved more than what he gave her, more of which she’s getting from Jack that includes a lot of hot, hot orgasmic sex. I thought Ally’s character was very realistic as she’s not model thin, too tall, rich, or stunningly beautiful. She’s someone we can relate to; perhaps someone you’d like to be friends with. The story, the characters, all of it felt real. Kudos to Mann for straying from the mainstream by not having Jack and Ally declare their love for one another after their first night of sex. Mann gives her readers a story of two people who eventually fall in love with each other.

“Intoxicated” deserves the five-star rating I gave it as I truly loved it. Now don’t spaz out when I tell you this - “Intoxicated” is the first novel of a new series, BUT it’s the end of Jack and Ally’s story. Whoo-hoo! No cliffhanger! Go ahead and jump for joy. I’m already looking forward to reading Randy and Karly’s story.

Hmmm. For some reason, parts of this book just didn't work for me. It started off really strong - so strong that I one-clicked before I finished reading the sample. But the timeline and pacing seemed odd to me. There is an incident with Ally's mother at Ally's workplace that results in.... nothing! It comes up later in the book but at the time, I just felt like okaaay so what was that about. And then there's lots about her job at the Reyes Corp but felt like the storyline was sort of lost. I also didn't really get the back and forth with Chelsea What did work for me was Jack - yes, he was a manwhore with serious issues but I did like him. I also really liked Ally - she wasn't model thin, she had issues with food (like me!) loads of insecurities and tried to keep control of her life - a real person! As I got closer to the end, I was petrified that this was going to end as a cliffhanger but thankfully it didn't. And surprisingly, I did like the end - it wasn't pretty and didn't all tie up nicely with a bow and that's life - doesn't always end up puppies and rainbows but you deal with what you got... So this is the first in the series but it appears that Jack and Ally's story ends here. I will read others in the series. This is the author's debut and I do like her style. Some of the dialogue was wonderfully written, pithy comments and the sexy times were nicely done and HAWT... I will never look at cheesecake the same way again!

I received this book when I volunteered to be part of a judging panel. As part of the contest I was only required to read the first 30 pages of each book. With this story that was enough to pull me in to WANT to keep reading.

The first half of the story had me glued to the pages. I loved the characters and the story building. I was anxious to see how things were going to play out. However the second half was full of drama I didn't understand, in as so far as to say it was unnecessary stuff. The drama with the ex-wife seemed stupid. Without going into spoiler territory, anyone who can add would realise she was just stirring up strife.

The worst part for me though was what happened with Ally's mother. Well more Ally's mother's explanation of why she abandon her at the age of six. It felt like the author had milked it so much throughout the story that by the end she didn't know how to wrap it up, so she threw something lame in. OKAY Now I have to add a spoiler to justify my rant . Seriously! And all of a sudden Ally is able to move on, nah-ah didn't work for me.

Nit-picking aside. This was a fantastic debut novel and I am sure this is an author to watch out for.

I bought this on a whim, and I read this on a whim thinking Yay smut...

There was a little smut, but man there was a whole lot of character development soul searching and feels! All which I was pleasantly surprised at.

I loved that even though they had angst, they talked... The got down and dirty on the details of their life and even though they weren't the clean cut characters they were honest and real. They gripped me by the throat and dragged me through the mud only to show me the smoggy sunrise!

Life is never dull between these two. With a drugged out ex who has a surprise for Jack and self-doubt and issues dogging Ally I thought I would dislike it. but they confronted most things head on. Miscommunication led to some issues but I loved that they let all their craziness and raw emotions hang out and were there for each other when it counted!

I gave up at about page 80. I just didn't really care for either of the characters and could tell where the story line was going but it just made me bored? I don't know I've also just been a judgey bitch lately but seriously who thinks being called 'Popsicle' is sexy?

"Intoxicated' by Jeana E. Mann the first novel in the contemporary romance "Felony" series heats up when Jack Jameson the dark and dangerous bartender at Felony hooks up with Allegra (Ally) Taylor , a conservative and insecure accountant. Both lives are fraught with troubles from financial woes to bad breakups, to a pregnant ex-wife who refuses to be divorced.

Jeana E. Mann sets the stage for a steamy romance that ignites in the backrooms at Jack Jameson's two bars- Felony and Jameson. With his uncle in prison he's working hard to make them financially solvent, but is hampered externally by a sagging local economy, high unemployment rate, and internally by a reputation for bar fights and a cash flow problem. But it's at Felony , the notorious underground club with its pulsating music, pungent odours , laser lights, strobes and eclectic mix of patrons that sexy, fun-loving Jack becomes fascinated by a woman totally opposite to the countless girls he's had sex with over the years. With emotional intensity the author explores the messy, unpredictable lives of two people who in the heat of their troubles find passion, and with understanding and empathy connect, finding love and trust.

The plot focuses heavily on Jack and Ally's problems and love affair with only snapshots into their families, former relationships and friendships that moulded their personalities. Although the story gives the allusion that sex, and drinking alleviates the pain of heartache and the stress of their troubles, there is an underlining theme that life can be a teeter totter, up and down, but that any problems must be faced and dealt with. Blended into the main plot are issues of mental illness, drug addiction and promiscuity.

Ally Taylor is the sensible, staid accountant who Jack Jameson nicknames "Popsicle" because she tends to be cold and uptight. Haunted by a philandering father and abandoned by a mentally ill mother Ally is very self-controlled, stubborn and driven to succeed. Dealing with a bad breakup she yearns for fun and danger and finds herself sexually addicted to Jack, the good-looking bartender at Felony. Plagued by guilt, an obnoxious, pregnant ex-wife and business problems, the brutally honest, insensitive and arrogant Jack Jameson has built a wall around his heart preferring mindless sexual encounters to a lasting relationship. Charming and full of mischievous fun, he tenaciously pursues Ally, an intelligent woman who snares his interest although he recognizes that she's out of his league. Yet with Ally, Jack begins to settle down and open his heart.

Among the characters that add drama and spice to this captivating tale are; the predatory, self-centered Chelsea who uses emotional blackmail to get what she wants; Randy MacKenzie the perceptive, streetwise bouncer; Karly Ericksson, Ally's high-spirited, loyal friend and Michael Taylor, a hard-nosed, narrow-minded and cold businessman.

I liked "Intoxicated" but felt it concentrated too heavily on Ally and Jack's sexual romp which detracted from the depth of a story and left a lot of questions unanswered including Ally's relationship with her mother and father, and the growing debt load of the two bars. Because of this I'd rate it a 3.5, although the scale only allows for 3.0.

Just...no

I finished it, but I skipped whole chapters to do it. The story was disjointed and the character development was so juvenile. Not to give the ending away, but seriously -- I hate you, no I love you and I'll be besties with your maybe baby mama...just no!!!

Ally gets dumped and heads to the bar where Jack works. She's always found him attractive but knows he is a womanizer. She flirts with him but knows it can't be a one time thing. Jack has always been attracted to Ally and is glad when she is dumped. They start hanging out and get together. That blows up when his wife enters the picture. Apparently they've been separated forever, but he feels responsible for her. She is addicted to drugs and he blames himself. She finds herself pregnant with Jack's baby from a one night stand before he got with Ally but it messes up their new romance. It's difficult, but Ally forgives Jack and decides to fight for him.

I was given an ARC in exchange of a honest review.

*Spoiler Alert*

This book was a disappointment for me. It started well, cliché-y but well. But it has so many things I didn't like, that I was just skipping through the book. Like a pregnant ex, and drug addict above all. I don´t like books where the guy goes and get another woman pregnant, and I despise drug addicts specially pregnant women who don´t care for his own child.
I can´t say much about this book, it just didn't worked for me.

DNF @38% ...I really wanted to like this book, but after a few days of forcing myself to read it I had to finally give up.

First, the pacing of the story seemed off, patchy & sporadic is the best way to describe it 🤷🏼‍♀️ at times the author wrote a sentence that would suggest a few days had passed, and then you find it’s been like an hour. Then other times she would write like it was the next day just to find out it’s supposed to have been a week or so. There was also a problem with details & characters being consistent.

Add to that characters who just kind of felt blah, I had a hard time finding anything about this book to like. After reading some more reviews it made the decision not to finish the book easier. Pregnant secret wives are just not my cup of tea 🤨🙄

Not my definition of New Adult unless New Adult suddenly means trashy.

I was really disappointed. The description said it's a new adult romance, but the heroine was engaged for 8 years and is an accountant, and the hero is married and has a child on the way. That's way too old for "new adults." I also really dislike cheaters in romances. How is that a romance? The hero's stepping out on his pregnant wife. Just gross. Apparently New Adult is becoming code for Skanky Romance.

If you're looking for new adult romance, I suggest passing on this one. If you're looking for a gritty contemporary adult romance, you might like it.

Great sexual chemistry and tension between Jack and Ally during the growth of their relationship from a one night stand to something more and I loved the twists thrown in to test even the best of relationships. This wasn't over done like so many other books in this genre. The author struck a nice balance between steamy encounters and tender moments and the characters felt real. Great book that I read in one sitting.

Holes in the characters personality. Ally was soooo annoying and Jack just seemed flat. I was getting so frustrated. Not much build up to their relationship. He did some basic attempts to date her, first shag and then oooo I feel a connection 🙄.
