★✩★✩★ 5- Sexy and Damaged -Stars
~this review may contain minor spoilers~

Attraction pulsed between them, unexpected and breathtaking in its intensity. His eyes went to her lips and held. The beat of her heart quickened, and her lips parted. She sucked in a breath, needing oxygen to offset the rush of blood thundering through her veins. Their eyes met again. She'd never seen eyes quite like his, feral yet focused, churning with complexity.

Karly Eriksson comes from an extremely troubled past and it has shaped the woman she is today. All she wants is to get through collage and find a way to support herself and her little sister, but seems to run into problems at every turn. When her best friend talks her into a night out at the Underground Felony Bar, Karly thinks this is just what she needs; a night to just cut loose and forget the weight reality has on her shoulders. What she isn't expecting is the intense attraction she feels for the bartender/bouncer and it's the last things she wants or needs; a recent heartbreak has left her overly cautious when it comes to men and her focus needs to be in her sister...

The more distance she put between Randy Mackenzie and herself, the better. She had no place in her life for distractions right now.

Randy Mackenzie
lives his life hiding in the shadows keeping people at a distance, his life has always been full of darkness and what he really needs is a little bit of light. Karly unexpectedly brings that light into his life, but he doesn't trust it, can't trust it, can't have it, doesn't want to need it; Randy has recently had his heart torn to shreds himself and it cost him the one person who means the most in the world to him. But he is still drawn to her...
After a night of cutting loose, Randy gives Karly a ride home; he never planned to sleep with her, but maybe one night of uninhabited passion is just what they both need, but it can never be repeated-they both agree on that.

“I didn't expect to fuck you tonight. It was the last thing on my mind. And I didn't expect to say this either, but here goes. I want to fuck you again, the way you need it. Slow and deep and a little dirty. Is that how you like it Karly?”

I didn't read the first book in this series and that didn't cause a major problem; this can be read as a stand-alone, however, I will be downloading and reading the first book before the next one comes out just so I can get Jack and Ally's story and meet some of the characters I'm sure I missed out on so far. This book was relatively short and was basically an introduction to Karly and Randy's story; it gave us a pretty good look at their background, where they came from and a glimpse into their recent heartbreak-although, Randy's early life is still a bit of a mystery. It also showed us how they were brought into each others lives, gave us a taste of the chemistry burning between them, and gifted us with an incredibly hott night of passion that unfortunately doesn't end the way we would want it to. Yes- the book leaves us hanging, but that was the point I guess. We basically get the set-up for their next book, one I am very much looking forward to. I have so many questions, and so much hope for their futures; if anyone deserves to catch a break, and find a little happiness, it's these two. If Jeana Mann's intent was to grab my attention and leave me begging for more; MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!

Karly was like a beacon shining into the dark abyss of his life, illuminating the dusty corners and leaving all his secrets exposed, when every survival instinct warned him to hide.

In this delicious novella about Karly Eriksson and Randy Mackenzie, you find out that there are things in this life that people want hidden and will do anything they can to keep it that way.

Karly – suffering from guilt about her family life and her little sister, is working a waitress job, just to make ends meet and provide for the sister she left in an abusive home.

Randy – battling his own darkness, losing his son to a vengeful ex-wife, he seeks Karly out because her sun shines bright in his eyes.

Not having read any of Ms. Mann’s other titles, I found this book intriguing and now I HAVE to go back and read the first one. The writing was exceptional and the book drew me in and made me want to help both characters. Karly and Randy really need a break and come together in an unusual way. I loved it and can’t wait to see what happens in book 2.

This is the first full size book in the Felony series, but actually the second book, if you count the novella that started it all. This is the story of Randy and Karly. I liked both of these characters a lot in this book, although I could have cheerfully kicked Randy's butt all the way out of town a few times while reading. It wasn't that he was trying to be a jerk, really. He was caught up in his past, and he believed all those thoughts he'd always had about himself. The only character I had a problem with is Karly's brother Mitch. Something was off about him in the book, like he wasn't aware of his surroundings all the time, which can be fatal if you're a cop.

As always, (and if you read the rest of the Felony series, you'll understand) the rest of the Felony gang is hanging out just waiting to put in an appearance. I think that's one of the draws this series has for me. When a characters is introduced, they don't leave. They stick around, hang at the bar, and just generally become your friend. I'm not sure if Ms. Mann could have interspersed her characters any better than she did. Each one is an individual, no two are alike. And each of the characters has the kind of depth that most writers only dream about giving a characters.

Great book! I give it 4-1/2 stars. I would have loved to have seen a stronger ending, but from the sneak peak, it is obvious that we haven't seen the end of Randy and Karly. The book needed a better proofreader and possibly a second edit to get rid of a few of the typos, etc., but overall those didn't stop me from enjoying the book.

A short novella, prequel to the series. It sets you up well, introducing Karly and Randy and getting you familiar with their backstory. Being a prequel, you obviously know when they part, it won't be forever.

There are possible triggers with spousal abuse but it's not graphic. The sex scenes are steamy and spicy!

I was invested enough in the characters to want to know how they get back together and solve the issues they have in the prequel. I'll be looking for the rest of the series for sure! As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, I give it four hearts!

I felt bit stupid and betrayed when I understood this isn't really a book, it is more of background tale for the next books main characters. There was nothing wrong in the tailing really, but I feel this just could have been expansion to first book in a serie.

If you read Intoxicated before reading Unexpected prepare to be a bit confused. When I signed up to review this book there was no information regarding Vindicated, and as the blurb made it clear that this book surrounded the scene from book one in which Karly accompanies Ally to Felony, I began reading it expecting it to be about that night and whether or not Karly and Randy started seeing one another afterwards. As such, I spent the first half of the novella confused about the timeline. Why? Because there was absolutely nothing in Intoxicated that indicated that Karly and Randy knew one another prior to that night at Felony. But the first half of Unexpected reveals that they were acquainted – not friends, but they knew one another through Karly’s brother Mitch.

I feel it important to note that my confusion about the sequence of events did not prevent me from enjoying the story, it merely kept me slightly off kilter until the two books converged. At that point, all bets were off because the remainder of the book is about the night that Karly and Randy spent together. And let me assure you that I now understand exactly why Karly told Ally that “It was the best sex I’ve ever had times one hundred.” There is certainly something to be said for a 6’6” man and door sex … YOWZA! While their backstory and the ways in which their lives overlapped was quite interesting to read, I had hoped to find out what happened after that night. Although I am slightly disappointed that Unexpected ends the morning after, I am pleased to know that Karly and Randy are getting a full-length novel in Vindicated and can only hope that the fiery red-head stereotype comes into play because I suspect these two are going to be explosive if they ever get together. Despite what seems to be a litany of complaints, I enjoyed Unexpected and am appreciative that Ms. Mann did give her fans a stimulating play-by-play from that night.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Like most Thursday nights they were short staffed at The Scotsman. Karly noticed that Randy was there at a booth, when she went over there to clean off the booth next to his, she notices that he was gone. She gets a text message from her sister, Karly gets concerned and called her to make sure that she was okay. Emma told her that it was really bad tonight. Karly called Mitch and told him that he was at it again and said that he should arrest him. Mitch told her that if he arrests him but Emma would go into the system. Karly told him that he should take her, he said how is he supposed to take her. There are two kinds of men one who stood their ground and those who ran. When Randy went to collect the money Scotty told him that he didn't have it, so he gave Scotty to the end of the night. Randy walked Karly to the bus stop and Karly kissed him. What happens next.
Karly is 23 years old, she wants to be able to take care of Emma but no judge would give custody of Emma. Has a alcoholic for a father. Waitress at The Scottsman. Randy is 26 years old smoking was his only vice, has a son but he is never allowed to see him. Emma is Karly's younger sister, Alcoholic for a father. Mitch is a cop, Emma and Karly's brother, has two kids and a baby on the way. Scotty is the owner of The Scottsman and owes Randy money. Josh works with Karly at The Scottsman.
I really loved this book, its book 1.5 in the Felony Romance Series. This is my first book by Jeana Mann and it most definitely will not be my last. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I will be getting the first book in this series as soon as I can. I loved how all the characters were very well developed. I loved Jeana's style of writing and I was hooked from the first page!!

I will begin by saying I have not read any of the other books in the Felony Romance series or from this author but I found this novella interesting enough to make me want to read more. It is a quick read due to the smoothness in writing and leaves you with a sense of hope for the two characters both battling their own demons in life.

Karly Eriksson it working as a waitress in a bar, going to school and trying to prove that she can care for her little sister who she left in her abusive home. Her brother Mitch, who is a cop, has his own burdens in life and refuses to help little sister Emma, so Karly, is left to figure out a plan on her own. She is also trying to recover from a broken heart after breaking off a relationship a few months prior to a man she thought she loved, but found out she was lied to and betrayed.

One night she meets Randy Mackenzie and her world is about to turn in a different direction. Randy has his own demons to slay, namely the memory of his ex-wife and his child that she took from him. He works at a different bar but does some side jobs that could be questionable. When he sees Karly he remembers her from the past because of her brother and mutual friends, but he will get to meet the real Karly in this novella.

Both are lovable characters once you get to see their vulnerabilities and dreams. The author did a great job with the passion and desires. I think this is one of the few times I have to agree that putting out a novella really did peak my interest in a series that I knew nothing about. Karly and Randy alone are enough for me to want to know more about the whole story just by their personality and the great chemistry they have together.

"Unexpected" By Jeana E. Mann which I won through Goodreads Giveaways is a mesmerizing and entertaining novella that heats up when Karly Eriksson's friend invites her for a night out at the underground Felony Bar where she connects with Randy MacKenzie the head of security. Both are facing an emotional storm of problems from messy breakups so neither expect their evening to end in a steamy night of sex without expectations or regrets.

This prequel introduces the reader to Karly and Randy, two people whose bad decisions and host of bad breaks have left them feeling hurt and betrayed. Haunted by a bad breakup with a married man Karly is struggling to build a decent life that will one day include Emma, her young sister. Similarly, Randy has been betrayed by the mother of his son Caleb who's refusing him access to the little boy that healed his heart and let him love again. When the two meet at The Scotsman a bar and grill, sparks fly especially when Randy walks her to the bus stop and Karly kisses him. Their chemistry ignites again when an incident at the Felony Bar brings the pair together in the alley. In a moment of shared pain they connect taking their desires one step further at Karly's apartment.

"Unexpected" is an intoxicating look at Karly and Randy's first meeting as their sexual attraction blossoms amid a bevy of problems. I liked it and intend to see where love takes them in "Vindicated", the second book in the Felony Romance series.

This book takes place during the same time as the first book in this series but talks about what happens between Karly and Randy. They both have a lot going on in their lives. Randy's ex just left and won't let him see his son. Karly grew up in an abusive household and is worried about what could happen to her little sister Emma. They share a kiss one night and see each other again a few days later when Karly joins Ally for a girls night out at Felony. They feel an attraction to each other but both think that they aren't in good places in their lives to be in a relationship.

I really liked how this book gave you Randy and Karly's story that happened in the first book and will transition into the second book. I really liked the first book and can't wait to find out more about Randy and Karly's story as well as more about Jake and Ally.

I was given this book in return for an honest review.

I received a free copy of this novella for my honest review.

This was a super short read. I think I finished it in about an hour or so.

Karly is working her ass off. All she wants is to get custody of her little sister so she doesn't have to grow up hiding in the closet when her dad comes home upset and beats the crap out of her mom.

At the bar, busting her ass, she spies Randy..slightly dangerous, all man. When in waltzes the man who broke Karly's heart like it meant nothing...and his Wife! WOW...what a crappy day for Karly.

Randy walks her to the bus stop, and she kisses him. GASP...that's the start of a hot little adventure.. Karly and Randy spend a wonderfully sexy and erotic night together and then...

UGH left waiting for the next book in the series. VINDICATED...

I rated Unexpected with FOUR LEAVES. This was my first book by Mann and I enjoyed it. I loved the writing style and was hooked from the beginning. I didn't read the first book in this series so I wasn't sure what I was getting into but I loved it.

Karly is waitressing to make ends meet and to help out with her little sister who is left in an abusive home. Randy has a son who he can't see because of an ex who won't let him around. Karly and Randy come together and lean on each other in their times of need.
I'm definitely interested in this series and I can't wait to go back and read book one and I'm already looking forward to book two. Make sure you get both books and start them today!!

I really enjoyed this story. Karly is a bright young woman who is working hard to overcome her past so she can take care of the important people in her life. Randy is struggling to make ends meet, his wife recently left him because he was too emotionally guarded with her, and he works as a low paid bouncer and bar tender. Randy is a gentleman who walks Karly to the bus at night, and an enforcer who hurts people for money. On the surface they make an unnatural pair, but are really cute together. This novella introduces you to these characters and the struggles that they are dealing with. It definitely makes you want to continue the story to see how it ends. I am looking forward to finishing this story in the next book. I am very happy to have found Jeana Mann' books.

Life for Karley is one bad thing after another. Most days are bad, but some are even worse. The last two have been worse than normal, with the only bright spot being the sexy bouncer Randy.

Randy's life isn't going the way he expected espically when it comes to his ex and their son. Everything in his life is a consuming darkness and suddenly there's a bright light, Karley.

The chemestry is off the charts and when a few bad days pile up for both of them they lose themselves in each other. But what will happen after their night?

Short and steamy this is just a taste of what will happen in book two of this series.

i won this book through goodreads and the author so i want to give a big thank you to everyone who made that giveaway possible.

I thought that this was an interesting type of book and i don't usually read from this genre. i found the story to be entertaining enough. There are other books in this series so i might check them out. This book was fine to read as a standalone though. This story has been well written and the author has been very descriptive.

4.5 unexpected stars.

Great story. Loved the plot, the character development, the steam factor. I look forward to reading more about Karly and Randy in the next instalment.

I didn't give it 5 stars, as the side story of Emma left me unfulfilled. My heart broke for her, and I want to know she is going to be okay. Maybe that too will unfold in the next book.

After reAding book one, Intoxicated, I'm hooked.

I was a little annoyed once I realised a had paid near on the cost of book 2 for a novella. Amazon advertised this book as book 2 & it is not it is book 1.5!
Either way a nice quick read which I'm hoping will fill in the gaps for book 2.
