DETROIT -- Ryan Carpenter will make his second career start on Wednesday afternoon against the Cleveland Indians.

The Detroit Tigers plan to recall the 6-foot-5 left-hander from Triple-A Toledo prior to the game. They will have to make a corresponding move to create a space for him on the 25-man roster.

Carpenter, 27, made his Major League debut with the Tigers last month, giving up three runs on five hits in three innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He also served as the 26th man for Saturday's doubleheader, pitching 2/3 of an inning in relief in Game 2.

The Tigers needed an extra starter because Wednesday's game will be their sixth in five days due to the doubleheader.
