In times of dire trouble or danger, some people are prone to simply stand still, like "a deer in the headlights." That is dangerous. Of course, we ought not to fear taking our time in making decisions or checking things out before we act. We need to be careful not to jump "from the frying pan into the fire." There may be times when standing still and not acting are the right things to do, but if fear drives us to freezing and not reacting, we may be in danger.

We must never fear moving ahead—even if our progress is slow. We should instead fear standing still. We must learn to control our fear because it can paralyze our thinking and acting. The most difficult decision is often overcoming our fear rather than deciding which path we will choose. Jesus said those who were fearful had little faith (Matthew 8:26).
