Warney, Grant Power Teams to Wins, Earn #AEHoops MBB Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Four America East men's basketball teams picked up wins over last weekend, including Albany winning at Yale, which entered the week with a top-50 RPI rating. Two players who led their respective team to wins are this week's league award winners. Read about them as well as conference notes:  

Player of the Week
Jameel Warney, Stony Brook - Jr., Plainfield, N.J.
  • Averaged 18.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and 6.0 blocks in a pair of games last week.
  • Contributed 19 points, a season-high 18 boards and four rejections at Canisius Thursday.
  • Led the Seawolves to a win at Loyola Sunday with 18 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high eight blocks.
  • The eight blocks are the most by an America East player since Marqus Blakely had eight on Jan. 21, 2008.
  • The Player of the Week honor is Warney's third of the season and fourth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
Jourdan Grant, UMBC - Fr., Bowie, Md.
  • Helped UMBC to a win over Kennesaw State in his lone game last week.
  • Had a stellar all-around game, contributing 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
  • Shot 5-of-7 from the field.

  • Stony Brook improved to 5-0 at home with a win over Loyola Sunday.
  • The Seawolves' Jameel Warney has 10 double-doubles in 11 games this season.
  • Warney leads the country averaging 12.8 rebounds per game.
  • Warney's eight blocks Sunday was the most since Marqus Blakely had eight on Jan. 21, 2008.
  • Albany won at Yale, which had an RPI of 43 entering the week, Saturday, its second-straight win.
  • UMBC won its second straight after starting 0-9, winning at Kennesaw State, 66-53, behind 21 points from Cody Joyce.
  • Hartford hit 13 three pointers and scored a season-high 82 points in a win over FIU Sunday.
  • Stony Brook ranks 13th nationally in rebound margin (+10.1).
  • UNH leads the league in both scoring offense (68.4 ppg) and scoring defense (58.8. papg).
  • UMass Lowell’s Jahad Thomas is the first America East player to win three Rookie of the Week honors to start his career since 1993 (Tunji Awojobi, Boston U.).
  • UMBC’s Rodney Elliott, the league’s reigning Rookie of the Year, is out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
