Anger Leading To Illogic

Anger Leading To Illogic

I have noticed that some of my colleagues are making daily and sometimes even hourly comment on the social and political situations of the day. I cannot help but feel uneasy in that we are tending to be moving towards emotionalism without logic. We also seem to be blaming everything on what is happening, even when there is no direct evidence that some of the issues we are experiencing are connected to the big issues of the day.

We as a society must be tolerant that ultimately makes a great nation great. I fear that fear has superseded logic and now we are venting old animosities old hurts and old hatred in the name of political debate. In reality, psychotherapists are communicators and yes to some extent commentators. We owe it to ourselves, our clients and our society to rise about the pettiness of discord and attempt to use our skills to rationally look at the world around us and try to make sense of it.

Of course, we are not robots, and yes we do have emotions, but there is a risk when we let our emotionalism out in public we could be doing a great disservice to the work we do and the people we work for and with. It is my hope that sanity can lead to a reduction in anger and a return to logic and respect in these turbulent times.
