BCSO deputy fired after arrest on suspicion of domestic violence

SAN ANTONIO – New Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar has fired a deputy after he was arrested on suspicion of a domestic violence incident at a home in the 8000 block of Chisos Oak Drive in Southeast San Antonio.

Sheriff deputies were called to the home just after 10 p.m. Wednesday for a reported domestic disturbance.

After investigating the matter, deputy Matthew Fernandez, 28, was arrested and charged with assault bodily injury (married).

Fernandez was had been assigned to Bexar County Jail. He was released after posting $3,500 bail.

Fernandez was fired Thursday morning, he had been with the Sheriff’s Office since July 2016.

“Allegations of family violence are always taken seriously,” Salazar said. “When those allegations are against an employee, it is extremely troubling. Due to the nature of these allegations and ensuing arrest, this probationary deputy has been terminated.”

San Antonio police are handling the investigation.
