For so many, it's a Las Vegas summer staple--enjoying the slides and pools at Cowabunga Bay, and now Cowabunga Cayon waterparks.

"We’re looking at a very strong summer this year," said Regional Manager Shane Huish.

It's an operation whose bread-and-butter is youth seasonal workers in the roles of cashiers, lifeguards and more.

Huish said they've been able to fill several jobs this summer season but it has been harder than in years before.

It's the result, says Sonia Petkewich, of the current job market.

"It’s really hot," she said. "There’s a lot of jobs out there right now.”

Petkewich is the owner of Taurean Consulting Group, which helps match candidates to jobs.

And while there are plenty of jobs on the market, she said there's a unique opportunity for young adults coming out of high school or college.

"A lot of adults are getting out of the workforce, they are going into solopreneurship, or just choosing not to work," she said. "So I think if you are an advantageous teenager, young adult, this is the time to get into the workforce.”

She's not only noticed a lot of entry level job openings for teens, but also ones that are ponying up more cash.

"You’re going to get paid more than your friends were in the last few summers," she said. "You’re going to see a dollar or two across the board as it comes to these hourly rates.”

Shane said they've also worked to entice employees, including raising wages for leadership positions, offering day passes and employee parties.

He also points out teens get valuable skills like working with a cash register, dealing with change and dealing with guests.

All guiding them to take the plunge into the working world.

"There’s a lot of skills we can teach them from the ground up," he said.
