Eye Spy: Sunglasses Trendspotting for 2015

This article is more than 9 years old.

Everyone's coolest accessory just keeps getting better. Let's look to see what's on the horizon (with our shades on, of course) for sunglasses trends in 2015.

According to the experts, there are a few fun new looks to watch for. Clodagh Norton, co-founder of the eyewear review source Eyestylist.com, walks us through four of the latest trends below.

Rounded Elegance: Curvy, bubbly shapes are in again. Frames echo 1960s and 1970s styles.

Men's Choices: Dior's 0196S glasses ($367) feature silver mirrored lenses and frames made from blue acetate, crystal acetate and lacquered metal. And Vinson ($980) from Leisure Society have leather blinders at the sides to maximize eye protection from all angles.

Women's Choice: Studded with Swarovski crystals, A-Morir's Piaf glasses ($280) pay homage to France's most notable diva, Edith Piaf.

Funky Statement-Makers: Out-of-the-ordinary designs and detailing, from pavé stones to cat eye frames, are making a splash. Playful patterns like confetti, sparkle, and marble are having a moment," adds Julia Gogosha, of Gogosha Optique.

Men's Choice: Prada's Cinema SPR11QS sunglasses ($207) are bold, geometric and playfully patterned.

Women's Choice: Dita's Hurricane cateye glasses ($375) are edgy—literallyin the most sophisticated way.

Natural Luxe: The sunglasses we are seeing are more and more elegant and beautifully finished, with a modern edge," Norton explains. Designers are using high-end metals and natural materials like horn, leather and wood.

Men's Choices: Gucci's Gold Plated Aviators with Bamboo ($1,195) feature 24 karat gold mirrored lenses, a gold plated frame and bamboo detailing. For a less glitzy option, Eric's Own glasses ($380) by Christian Roth feature a brown flannel pattern and red detailing to achieve a look of natural refinement.

Women's Choice: Anna-Karin Karlsson's 2015 collection includes The Lioness ($990), with a centerpiece design in 24-karat gold plated acetate. That's something to roar about.

Mirrored and Colored Lenses: Silver gold, or colored, mirror lenses are in.Look for colors ranging from jewel-tone greens, blues, and purples to vivid reds and even neons to pop next year," Gogosha says.

Men's Choice: The refreshing blues RVS's 2015 Morro glasses ($425) are beautifully bold.

Women's Choice: From haute couture designers Khaleda Rajab and Fahad Almarzouq, these cat-eye tortoises ($389) walk the line between glasses and mask.

Transparent Choice: These unisex Cabrillo glasses ($280) from Oliver Peoples have such light lenses that the wearer's eyes shine through. According to Norton, we can expect to see more of this look in coming months.

Limited Editions:

Web giant Imgur and sunglasses designer Westward Leaning collaborated on this pair of limited edition unisex glasses ($180, available from December 9 through the end of January) that not only protects your eyes from the sun, but also from the glare of your computer screen.

Dolce & Gabbana's limited edition Moasico collection involves an extremely intricate process of hand-placing floral tiles of freshly spun Murano glass into the frames.
