Back-To-School Mental Health Tips

Hey everybody. It’s almost that time again back to school. I go back in two weeks. When do you go back?

Back-To-School Preperation

Today I got the welcome back letter from my principal. You know that letter, the one that tells you that your summer is over? So I started to think, am I ready to go back? Did I get to do all the things I wanted to do over the summer? Am I refreshed? And that’s what I’d like to talk about today. So how do you give yourself a mental boost? How do you shift gears and get yourself ready to get fired up and to get yourself in the right mindset and start off the school year on a positive note?

Giving Yourself a Mental Boost

Some of the things I like to do to give myself a mental boost before I go back is maybe a come up with some new lessons? I like to go up to the school and clean out my storage room, get rid of old equipment, organize some of the new equipment I got at the end of the year. I like to buy new school supplies. Like it’s always nice to have new pens and pencils and my gradebook all organized and just kind of throw out some of the old stuff that was falling apart. I like to get at least one pair of new shoes and the couple new outfits to wear that keeps me excited and fresh for back to school. The other thing, probably most importantly, I make sure for the last two weeks here that I get plenty of sleep and rest and I do the last minute things that I wish I would have done over the summer that I didn’t get to. So I feel like I’m ready to go back.

Getting New Lesson Plan Ideas

I want a quick circle back to the idea of me getting new lessons because you may be thinking, well, where do you come up with your new lessons? I find them in a few different ways. Sometimes I just merely sit down with a blank pad of paper and I come up with some new circuits or new exercises or new innovative ways to kind of design them. Um, I can get ideas off of YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest. It’s just the Internet is awesome to come up with some new things to beg, borrow and steal from people. I mean people that are doing the most amazing things out there and now we have the capabilities to share them online, which is fantastic.

The one thing I really want to do this year is tap into that new DynamicPEASAP.com that’s taking the Dynamic PE book and it went digital. I know I might be sounding like I’m selling it right now. I’m really not. I just, it’s a fast, easy way to just click, click, click, and put together a four-part lesson or a two-part lesson or whatever you need right on the computer and so I’m really going to be using that, which I really think will help me with my adaptive PE class that I have.

So the point here today was to do whatever you need to do to get yourself mentally prepared so you can have a really good fresh start back to school. Don’t let time run out and have a great school year everybody have fun, and thanks for listening.
