Added Teak & Holly decking

Postby knotflying on Thu Oct 05, 2017 3:32 pm

Today Gansett Ranger and Illusions got a deck lift. We installed a product called U-dek. It took us two hours per boat to do the cockpit and swim platform. The pieces were computer measured and cut on a CNC machine. We stress tested the product before purchasing. We coated it with a 45 minute tuna blood bath, ketchup, cooking oil, old motor oil and red wine. The most difficult to remove was the old motor oil, but it did come out. Time will tell if it can withstand the usual wear and tear, but we figured we would give it a shot. Below is the end result of the cockpit. We did the swim platform as well, but I did not get a shot of that.

I'll post some pics of the install on my 25SC soon. Here is a link to the company website http://www.ultralonfoam.com. Click on the marine tab. U-Dek is based right here in RI, about 10 miles from my home. Here are some of their videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4O3sc ... 14fXBq5soA. Its a very impressive process when they come to the boat and digitize the flooring, back at the shop it is cut on a CNC machine. In addition to what Knotflying stated the material does not get hot, you can stand on it barefoot with the sun beating down on it. More comfortable than standing on the non skid, no need for cockpit carpeting. I also had the interior digitized, haven't taken that step yet to purchase.

Complete pictures are now in my photo album titled U-Dek

We did Seadek, a very similar product, on just the gunnels & steps into the cockpit to keep the dogs from slipping on their way in and out. We too are happy with the product and agree it is much cooler to stand on it the hot sun.

Looks good. Anyone ever add Seadek or UDek to a Cutwater 28? Photos?

Marty,
Contact Matthew at U-Dek, he may be able to help you out. matthew.bodoff@ultralonfoam.com He is familiar with the Cutwaters and Rangers, he has been to the factory. He is now very familiar with the Ranger 25 SC and 27(classic) and the digitized images are now on file.

Marty,

Just be careful if you do the swim platform. I am sure everyone has their davits in different locations and if you use someone else's file it may be wrong. I think I would discuss davit locations with them before you have the platform done. I would feel safer doing a field cut for the davits.

That's a very nice upgrade. Can you say what the cost was ? PM me if you wish with that info.

What is the exact material ? Is it plastic or a carpet like material and when it gets wet does it absorb any of the water etc ? When you pour water on it, does it simply run off for example ?

If you go to their website it explains everything. I suggest you contact them for pricing. I do not want to misquote. Brian & I were at the Newport boat show and they had a show discount also the fact that we did two boats and they were local to us we received a discount.

It has almost been a year, how are your deckings holding up?
I saw a boat today that has the Seadeck decking and I really liked the way it looked and it reminded me of what you folks did.

So far very satisfied. Gansett Ranger has had the one piece on the door for the swim platform step ladder partially release. This just was noticed this week. He has contacted the company and it looks like they are sending a new replacement.

Really, really nice installation. You mentioned stain testing, but how does U-Dek clean up from the typical spider, bird, dirt and other spooge that invariably finds its way onto the cockpit floor?

For the most part soap and water and the deck brush. Simple Green and a stiff brush works well also. There is an online video using Oven Cleaner on a stubborn stain. I haven’t had to use that.

Hi,
How much does a flooring like this weight. I’m always concerned about the weight of things.
Thanks,
Ken
