Mexican auto exports rise 16% in April

Mexican auto production increased 3.2% to 278,173 vehicles in April, Mexican Auto Industry Association (AMIA) announced today. Exports hiked 16.1% to 228,810 units, AMIA said.

Almost 80% of Mexican auto exports, 179,958 units, headed to the U.S. in April, 22,127 vehicles ended up in Canada (9.7%), 12,770 units were shipped to Latin America (5.6%) and 8,269 cars reached Europe (3.6%).

During the first four months of 2017, auto plants established in Mexico produced 1,221,877 vehicles, a 13.6% increase compared to the 1,075,340 cars from the same period in the previous year.

Total auto exports during the first four months of the year were up 14.6% compared with the same four-month period last year to 978,972 units.

Year-to-date exports to the U.S. totaled 748,033 cars (76.4%), Canada received 87,674 units (9%), 67,148 vehicles were shipped to Latin America (6.9%), 46,435 were exported to Europe (4.7%) and 8,378 ended up in Asia (0.9%)
