A nurse at ECMC will soon need a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with a deadly disease. Now he is reaching out for help.
The message is clearly on the back of his truck and it can easily be seen as he drives around town. Bob Parczewski had vein surgery done on his legs and that's where doctors found Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, which can be associated with diabetes or poor genetics.
"These diseases are characterized by lots of proteins in the urine and the kidney numbers start to go up," said Dr. Aigaz Gundroo, Assistant Professor at UB. "If they are not treated with proper medication the kidney finally fails and you need to treat them with either dialysis or kidney transplant."
His kidneys have only deteriorated since his diagnosis in 2011. In November of 2014, his kidneys completely shut down and now he is on dialysis.
"Now I'm going to hook up to my bag of dialysis solution basically this will go into my abdomen and act as a sponge," said Parczewski.
Parczewski spends a lot of time making trips in his car so he made his truck a driving billboard. His blood type is O, which means he can only get a kidney from someone who has the same blood type.
