For the first two years of college, I had to wait for the recreation center to open because they demolished most of the old one for the brand new one. It opened in Fall 2011, and it was worth the wait.
The center has tons of cardio equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, arc trainers, stair masters, stationary bikes, and rowing machines. They have plenty of free weights and machines. There is a running track indoors and outdoors. In the South Gym is four racquetball courts, two squash courts, two basketball courts, a game area, and two fitness classrooms. There are other fitness studios located near the entrance, and two more basketball courts that are near the day lockers. A three-story rock climbing wall where the routes are changed frequently. Locker rooms are fully equipped with semester lockers and showers.
Membership is essentially automatic for enrolled students but staff, faculty, and NAU-affilated members can purchase one as well. There are daily guest passes for anyone to use.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Robert Y.Tucson, AZ745787433May 25, 2015
The recreation center here is very typical for a college campus. It has an assortment of treadmills, cardio equipment, weights, you name it. It also has a track, racquetball courts, a basketball court, etc. Perhaps the most notable feature is the climbing wall which is something I see rarely in gyms like these. In all, its a decent gym and the prices for alumni and the public are good enough to warrant a membership. Students are automatically members since they pay a Recreation fee along with their tuition.
Overall, it is a pretty decent gym.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Diego A.Flagstaff, AZ02Sep 25, 2017
The gym there is really bad. All the equipments are old and dirty. It's too small you can't even workout. In weekends they closed at 7:00 pm!! Also, you can't even wear whatever you want and whatever makes you comfortable. What a shame to have a gym like this in a big and beautiful University like NAU.
