Job Fair Removes Barriers for Some Job Seekers

This post intends to share Crawford County’s first annual child support amnesty day and job fair

Child Support Awareness Month & Participating County Departments

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Governor’s and Lt. Governor’s Office recognize August as Child Support Awareness month. Crawford County Child Support, a unit of Crawford County Job & Family Services is partnering with OhioMeansJobs – Crawford County to host an Amnesty Day in conjunction with a Job Fair in order to remove barriers for job seekers that have a civil Child Support Warrant and/or have had their Driver’s License suspended due to outstanding child support. This first-ever event supports child support awareness month and removes employment barriers at a local level.   Additional county departments supporting this unique job fair include the Domestic Relations Court, the Juvenile Court, the Prosecutor’s Office, and Magistrate Timothy A. Roston.

Attending the Job Fair

The job fair is open to anyone seeking employment or training opportunities and will be held on August 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the OhioMeansJobs center, located at 225 East Mary Street in Bucyrus.  Child Support staff will be on hand to facilitate the removal of one or more barriers for individuals whose child support order is being enforced via driver’s license suspension or civil warrant.

Employment Opportunities

The job fair will welcome a regional mix of employers, staffing agencies, and the Carpenters Local Union. This mix will provide direct employment and placed employment options as well as the opportunity to pursue an apprenticeship through the Carpenters Local Union. The regional mix of employers will provide options for individuals with a Crawford County child support order who live outside the county.

Amnesty Process

The child support amnesty at this job fair is a simple process. A job seeker attends the job fair to look for employment; they do not have to get hired. Participants of the fair with a child support license suspension will have their license reinstated on the spot. A representative will be on-site to assist participants with BMV fee amnesty, payment plans, and more information. The job seeker may be responsible for the $25 reinstatement fee through the Ohio BMV and should bring their debit or credit card to pay the fee on laptops available during the fair or visit the Ohio BMV to pay with a different method.

If a job seeker has a civil warrant for child support, they can get their warrant resolved without going into custody. Attendees will have to go to the Crawford County Courthouse after attending the job fair to have a hearing with the Magistrate to have their warrant resolved. Magistrate Timothy A. Roston has attested that fair participants will not be going to jail for their civil child support case on August 15.  Courthouse staff will be prepared to assist the job seekers in navigating the hearing process.

A job seeker can resolve both a suspended driver’s license and the Child Support Warrant by attending the fair. No matter the amnesty granted, job seekers can anticipate follow-up from Crawford County Child Support.
