It is believed the structures, which include trails, ramps, jumps and water-filled excavations, are being used by people as unofficial bike or BMX tracks through the parks.

As well as posing a safety risk the structures are causing serious damage to the woodland and wildlife habitats in Hall Park. Other issues being caused by this activity include obstructions to footpaths, fire damage and littering.

It is also believed that large gatherings of people are taking place to use these unauthorised structures, in contravention of Covid-19 restrictions.

In order to address these unauthorised works, the council will remove the structures and begin a programme to reinstate the land and remedy the damage on Monday, 15 March 2021. Any person purporting to own any structures or materials on site should remove them before Sunday, 14 March 2021. Any articles left following this date will be removed and disposed of.

The park, which also contains the Grade-I listed Workington Hall, is owned by Allerdale Borough Council and managed by staff and contractors.

Cumbria Police have been informed.
