The Federation of Professionals and Traders of Thessaloniki has sent the Ministry of Finances a letter requesting that the VAT in the tourist sector does not increase and that the ENFIA tax be included in the 100-installments debt settlement provision.

In its letter, the federation notes that media reports indicate that the coalition government is considering the troika demand for an increase of VAT from 6.5% to 13%. This, according to the federation, will result in tourists choosing neighboring and more competitive tourist markets.

The federation, whose members include the hotelier association of Thessaloniki, the travel agent union of Macedonia and Thrace, the Panhellenic association of club owners, warn that the implementation of such a measure will be catastrophic for tourism.

Furthermore, they argue that the controversial ENFIA real estate tax must be included in the 100-installments debt settlement provision, as it will offer great relief to debtors and will allow them the opportunity to address their tax obligations.
