Moscow places sixth in world’s best cities ranking

The Resonance Consultancy top list includes London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Barcelona, Moscow, Chicago, Singapore, Dubai and San Francisco

NEW YORK, November 12. /TASS/. Moscow has placed sixth in the ranking of global place equity by the Resonance Consultancy, a report published on the company’s website informs.

The study identifies "24 factors that influence the perception of cities today, which include: housing affordability and job opportunities, quality of the natural and built environments, quality of key institutions, attractions and infrastructure, diversity of people, promotion via stories, references and recommendations shared online, economic prosperity, quality of the arts, culture, restaurants and nightlife."

"In World’s Best Cities report we used 24 factors in 6 categories - number of universities, quality of education, business environment - if major companies have their HQ in the city, transportation system - how easy to get to the airports, security for citizens, cultural diversity, tourist attractions, as well as people-to-people relations. Then we developed an algorithm. We applied it to 175 cities with population over 1 million," Chris Fair, President of Resonance Consultancy, told a TASS correspondent.

The study lists the top-10 world's best cities as following: London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Barcelona, Moscow, Chicago, Singapore, Dubai and San Francisco.

"Intriguing and increasingly hungry for global attention, Russia’s beguiling capital is a cultural gold mine spanning the ages," the report says about Moscow. "The global fascination has as much to do with the recent and spectacular 2018 FIFA World Cup (Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium in the city’s 360-acre Olympic complex hosted the pivotal final matches) as with the Kremlin’s global ambitions."

The report notes that the Russian capital has the necessary infrastructure, which attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. "The city ranks #3 in Airport Connectivity," it adds. "Once you’re on the ground, the recently renovated Moscow subway is increasingly the envy of many Western capitals."

The report mentions the abundance of Moscow parks, museums, art galleries, concert halls and other places of attraction. "Whatever brings you to the city, you’re in for an experience at stark odds with the West’s continuously dismaying news about Russia," the authors of the ranking stress.
