Fernando Herrera was arrested on Tuesday.

A Clewiston police officer was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly attacking a Hendry County sheriff's deputy.

Fernando Herrera, 47, was arrested on charged of aggravated stalking and battery on a law enforcement officer after he allegedly knocked a deputy to the ground and continued to punch him in the parking lot of a Shell gas station on SR-80.

The altercation occurred on Saturday, but was reported on Monday.

Both law enforcement officers were off duty at the time, but Herrera was wearing his uniform pants, duty boots and a black T-shirt.

According to the Hendry County Sheriff's Office, Herrera told the deputy "things could have been much worse," because of a gun he had in his truck.

Herrera also told the deputy he had thoughts of burning his home with him inside of it.

Herrera turned himself in and was released on $7,000 bond.

More charges may be filed pending the results of the investigation.
