A former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Tuesday to three years in state prison for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
John Augustus Rose II pleaded no contest in October to one count each of a lewd act on a child and possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Rose was involved in a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old girl between March and June 2013, prosecutors said.
He met the teenager through her family.
In addition to prison, the 44-year-old must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to the DA’s Office.
Rose was with the Sheriff’s Department for 22 years.
He was most recently assigned to the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Bureau.
Over his career, Rose won several awards, including a Medal of Valor for saving a woman’s life during a fire in 2002.
