Microsoft is teasing a new Halo at E3 2018 today. Halo Infinite is a new Halo game that appears to include a giant world associated with it, and vehicles like the classic Warthog. Microsoft demonstrated a brief teaser video of Halo Infinite at the beginning of its E3 keynote today. It says the new title will be centered on Master Chief, and it “continues the current storyline” after the events of Halo 5.

Microsoft’s teaser also includes a mention of a new Slipspace Engine that powers Halo Infinite, which has been created by 343 Industries to power future Halo games and experiences. Halo Infinite’s naming and teaser suggest this might be an open-world version of Halo. While there’s not much gameplay in the trailer, it does also show Master Chief slotting what might be Cortana into the back of his helmet.

343 Industries also describes this new game as “the next chapter of the legendary franchise.” It will be available on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. That’s great news for PC gamers, as Halo 5: Guardians never made it over to Windows 10.

‘Halo’ fans will be able to get an early look at ‘Infinite’

Microsoft says the game, art, and tech engine are all “still in progress and many of the assets and designs will certainly evolve between now and the release of the game.” As the game evolves, Halo fans will be able to test it out along the way. “In the future, you will be able to join early flighting programs that will let members of the community play the game with us, and give direct feedback, much like the current Insider flighting program for Halo: The Master Chief Collection,” explains Chris Lee, studio head of FPS at 343 Industries. “It will take some time for us to be ready to kick those flighting events off, but when we do they will start small and grow along the way.”

Microsoft is not revealing when Halo Infinite will launch, but it’s likely to be at least a year away from release.
