This programme provides learners with real-life, work-based learning experiences over 22 weeks with the opportunity of completing an accredited Personal Development unit.

Creativity Posters for every Education Establishment in Scotland

Colourful posters, de-bunking creativity myths and exploring creativity skills for learners and staff, are currently being delivered to every school and early learning and childcare centre in Scotland as part of Education Scotland’s work on the national Creative Learning Plan. National Digital Learning Week 2017:  Connecting with the world of work

This year’s events on the theme of ‘Digital Difference’ will take place from the 15 – 19 May.  The programme features inputs on employability and the world of work. More on this here.

Quality and improvement in Scottish education

Career information, advice and guidance (CIAG) practitioners are being urged to read a review of inspection findings from the past four years. The recent Education Scotland report ‘Quality and improvement in Scottish education 2012-2016’ includes a narrative summary of findings from CIAG settings. Inspectors found strong partnership working, and urged practitioners to ensure there is a strong ongoing collaboration with Skills Development Scotland going forward to support improvement. The chapter also includes case studies from Renfrewshire and Moray local authorities. 

Career Information and Guidance Review (CIAG):  Dundee

The external review by Education Scotland took place in February 2017 and focused  on the CIAG services delivered by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in Dundee.

Applications now open for Food for Thought funding

The Food for Thought fund 2017/18 is now open for applications with successful bids receiving up to £3000.


The fund is open to early learning and childcare centres, primary schools and secondary schools to develop Food and Health education. Applications will close at 2pm on Wednesday 31 May.

School competition to win a table at Barack Obama dinner

The 44th President of the United States will address philanthropy and business leaders at a dinner in Edinburgh on 26 May 2017 at the EICC, and you could be there.

                                 

The Hunter Foundation in partnership with Skills Development Scotland and Founders4Schools is offering one group of Scottish school pupils a table for ten at the event. All you have to do is write an essay that summarises what your school would do if you ran Scotland. The essay must be a maximum of two pages. Closing date for the competition is 15 May. More Foundation Apprenticeships for Pupils

More pupils across Scotland will be able to benefit from work-based learning as Foundation Apprenticeship places continue to expand with nearly 2,000 on offer this year.


The number of Foundation Apprentices has grown across Scotland with the work-based learning qualification now on offer to school pupils in over 110 schools. Find out more.

                                                   

First digital skills charity launched

The Digital Xtra Fund has become Scotland’s first charity dedicated to supporting a full range of digital skills initiatives for young people aged 16 and under after receiving official charitable status.


Funding has also been provided by the Digital Scotland Business Excellence Partnership, whose partners include Scottish Government, Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Funding Council, Education Scotland, ScotlandIS, and industry representatives.

Scottish Government looking for Modern Apprenticeships

Scottish Government is looking for a modern apprentice in business administration and procurement. Applicants must be 16-24 years old, unemployed and resident in Scotland.

Based in Atlantic Quay, Glasgow, the office hours are 42 h/week for 20 months and there is an opportunity to be kept on as permanent employee. At the end of 20 months, our modern apprentice also gets SVQ Level 3 in Procurement. Find out more here                                                               

Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS): Career Information Days for Practitioners

Each year the RCS offer a variety of free Teacher Information Days to teachers, careers advisors, facilitators, and other professionals who work with young performing or production artists.  A specific CPD session on career opportunities in Theatre Production can be accessed here.

EXCHANGE – Event for young people interested in careers in the music industry

This event provides a unique opportunity for young people interested in a career in the music industry to gain insight from and connect with key people in the sector. More here.

To acknowledge the 15 year anniversary of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF), the SCQF Partnership (SCQFP) undertook a research project in partnership with the University of Glasgow, to understand how the SCQF is used and the impact it is having in Scotland. The final report has now been published and findings have been shared with partners and stakeholders.

College Development Network is seeking entries for this year's CDN College Awards. The deadline date for entries is Friday 7 July 2017.  More information here.

CDN – Developing the Digital Workforce

This event will be delivered by College Development Network as part of the Digital National Learning Week with the chance to consider the development of digital skills, employment opportunities and the future of IT education.

The CDN Emporium is now bookable online. This year's Emporium will offer thought-provoking and practical workshops, seminars and activities at our offices in Stirling and in external venues across Scotland. More here.

Festival of Youth Enterprise

Young Enterprise Scotland is hosting the first national Festival of Youth Enterprise, 5 - 6 June. This will feature our broad range of enterprise activities, our supporters, the enterprise network and young people from across Scotland.
