Man suffers life-threatening injuries in roof collapse at car dealership in Travis, FDNY says

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A male suffered life-threatening injuries Friday morning when the roof collapsed at the Dana Lincoln Ford car dealership in Travis.

According to a source with knowledge of the incident, the man was a construction worker, working to demolish the old building at 266 West Service Road. Employees have been in the process of moving into a new building right next door.

The male suffered life-threatening injuries when he was trapped under debris in the roof collapse, an FDNY spokesman confirmed, and was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.

The incident was reported at 8:16 a.m.

A large number of FDNY and NYPD vehicles are on the scene, and officials from the Buildings Department and the Office of Emergency Management have been summoned, according to emergency radio transmissions.

Helicopters are hovering over the site of the collapse.

"I've never seen so many emergency vehicles before," said Bill Santo, who was going to the New York Sports Club gym nearby.

Further information will be posted as it becomes available.
