SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Tire marks are still evident on the snow covered green at the Burnet Park Golf Course in Syracuse, where an eyewitness saw a silver or gray Hummer doing donuts, ripping up the course early Tuesday morning.

Ryan Murphy, 33, of Syracuse, was driving home along South Avery Avenue around 2 a.m. when he saw the vehicle drive onto the golf course.

He said he called 911, followed the Hummer from the road and saw it driving by the course's clubhouse doing donuts for about 10 minutes before it drove through a gate by Grand Avenue to get away.

The Hummer was a model H2 or H3 and had a large LED light along the top of it, like the kind people use for off roading, he said.

The driver fled the scene before Syracuse Police arrived at the scene.

Murphy said it's not the first time the golf course has been vandalized by drivers, and he and other golfers are upset at people's lack of respect for property.

"It's appalling to us," he said, adding that it will take weeks in the spring for the grass to be mended.

Murphy has been golfing at the course since his dad taught him how, when he was 7-years-old. Nowadays, he and his friends have been playing in a men's league on Mondays for the last 6 years, paying a $100 membership fee for access to the course.

"Let's just say this incident has a lot of people fuming and hunting for justice," he wrote in an email about the incident.

Syracuse police said they noted the damage done at the scene and are asking anyone with information to call 442-5148.
