Cincinnati police seized five pounds of heroin, carfentanil, fentanyl and other opioids during a Westwood drug bust, in its largest seizure of the deadly synthetic opioids the department announced Thursday.

"This is a significant recovery in light of the overdose deaths that continue to plague our community," a statement from police said. "To date, this is the largest carfentanil/ fentanyl seizure by the Cincinnati Police Department."

Craig Williams, 37, was arrested after two addresses were searched by the Narcotics unit on July 7 as a part of a drug trafficking investigation, police said. Officers also seized $29,000 of suspected drug proceeds and two firearms.

Officers also recovered cutting agents, drug presses, blenders, digital scales, gloves and masks, which police said are used during the mixture and redistribution of drugs.

Police said during 2017 there have been 25 suspected overdose deaths in District 3. District 3 serves 14 neighborhoods on Cincinnati's West Side.
