Niall Quinn's son Mikey - who was sub-goalkeeper on the Dublin U21 football team that won a Leinster title earlier this year - is currently on trial at York City.

Mikey, who plays his club football in Kildare with Eadestown, is one of two goalkeepers seeking to impress York City manager and former Celtic star Jackie McNamara. The Minstermen will compete in the National League - the fifth tier of league football in England - in 2016-17 following their relegation from League 2 last season.

"We've taken two goalkeepers on trial, because we need competition in that area like the rest of the team," McNamara told local newspaper The Press.

"One is Niall Quinn's son Michael, who has been a Gaelic football goalkeeper, which is a bit different and the other lad is from Huddersfield. We could look at both in the pre-season games."

Before embarking on a successful soccer career, Sky Sports pundit Niall Quinn lined out for Dublin in the 1983 All-Ireland minor hurling final against Galway and scored 3-5 against Wexford in the Leinster final that year. Niall's late father Billy was an All-Ireland winner with Tipperary.
