Did you know that simply by asking different kinds of questions, you can change your life for the better?

The Affirmations Method is a simple, life-changing technique that I discovered in April 1997. Affirmation methods have been shown to help people improve their self-confidence, and relationships, and attract more abundance. They can also be used to overcome bad habits or enjoy a deeper spiritual connection.

If you’re looking for ways to improve your life, here are 10 tips on using affirmations effectively.

Owning Your Success Is the Key to Taking Your Business to New Heights.

It’s crucial to take responsibility before trying to undertake any major life changes. The word ‘responsibility’ is made up of response and ability, meaning “the capacity to respond”. Ownership is the key to transformation. By accepting responsibility, you’re saying to yourself and the world, “I am not a victim.” Change doesn’t stick unless you make it happen.

Figure Out What You Want Most in Life.

You will never achieve your goals if you do not know what they are. Many of my coaching clients begin our first session by sharing this sentiment with me. “But I don’t know what I want!” If that’s how you feel, ask yourself this question instead: “If time and money were no object, what would I love to be, do, or have?” Your answer shouldn’t scare you a little; if it doesn’t frighten you at all, then maybe you’re not thinking big enough!”

To Empower Yourself, Ask Questions That Lead to Positive Answers.

By asking empowering questions, or affirmations, you can change your subconscious thought patterns from negative to positive. If you find yourself wondering ‘Why can’t I do anything right?’ or ‘Why am I so broke?’, understand that these types of disempowering questions will only lead to negative answers. Your mind will subconsciously seek out justification for why you asked the question in the first place.

Be more empowered by asking yourself questions such as, Why am I good enough?, and Why does everything work out for the best?

Take Responsibility for Your Actions.

Blaming others leads to the emotional block of resentment. The word resentment means “to feel again.” Focusing on past hurts and slights may give you a feeling of control, but it’s a false feeling—because the past is gone.

Your life is only as good as your relationships — both the ones you have with yourself and the ones you have with others. To enhance your relationship with both the natural and metaphysical world, use affirmations.

Don’t Continue to Put the Blame on Yourself.

This is the flip side of blaming others. Blaming yourself leads to an emotional block of guilt. Guilt is resentment turned inward. Just like focusing on how others hurt you in the past, focusing on your mistakes only intensifies feelings of inadequacy and not-enoughness.

Talk to yourself like you would talk with a friend who is hurting. Would you tell your friend they were “stupid” or “not good enough”? Of course not! Then don’t say these things to yourself.

Allow Yourself to Achieve Success.

Many individuals are living their lives with one foot holding them back. No matter how badly you want to change–whether it’s in your wealth, physical appearance, health, relationship status, or bad habits–your brain is programmed to keep you doing the same things. If it’s been years since you’ve done anything nice for yourself, then today is the day to consciously accept all of the good things in life.

Be Prepared to Have Your Assumptions Challenged.

You may not realize it, but you’re always forming assumptions about life and your place in it. Unfortunately, many of these are unconscious and disempowering. A majority of people automatically think negatively, making excuses like I’m not good enough or this is too hard. If you have these assumptions, your actions will usually be hesitant and fearful, expecting to fail–and you probably won’t achieve the outcome you desire.

By constantly challenging your assumptions, you’ll come to the realization that failing in the past does not make you a “failure”. The truth is everyone experiences failure at some point in their lives. What separates successful people from those who are not is that successful individuals continue to try even after they experience failures.

Get Rid of the Negative Thoughts in Your Head.

So many individuals are always concentrated on what they do not have and who they are not, to the point where it becomes obtrusive. I refer to this as your “head trash.” If we’re being honest, most of us couldn’t even estimate the number of negative thoughts we’ve had about ourselves.

Consider if every pessimistic thought you had was garbage in your home. If you never took out the trash, your house would be pretty grungy, right? Purge those negative feelings and it’ll become a lot easier to breathe—literally!

Every Day, Make Sure to Write Down What Actions You Took.

Starting your day by waking up and writing down five things you would like to do will help increase productivity. I refer to this as your Daily Action Journal. You’re in the driver’s seat when you make goals that are within your control. Let’s say you’re running a business and want to increase sales. Something like, “Make 10 phone calls” is doable, whereas something like “$10,000 in revenue” isn’t because you can’t control whether someone buys from you. Just as you can control how much water you drink each day, you cannot always control other aspects of your life, such as needing to lose 10 pounds. The key to happiness is understanding what areas of your life are within your power and which ones aren’t.

Having a Gratitude Journal Is a Powerful Way to Reset Your Mood, Outlook, and Day.

Every night before you go to sleep, write down five things in a notebook that you are thankful for. Title this your “Daily Gratitude Journal.” When I started doing this in 2007, I was $40,000 in debt and had no friends. Far from where I am now- working out of my parent’s basement! Two years later, I had scored a six-figure book deal, found my dream home in the Midwest, was debt-free and married my true love.

I’m not saying that all of your problems will vanish into thin air if you start asking better questions. But, what I am suggesting is that by taking charge and focused action, your life could transform in ways you never would’ve guessed.

You can begin using affirmations immediately, regardless of how long you have been thinking negatively. Change your questions, confront your assumptions head-on, and see the amazing ways it will positively change your life!
