BRC Cardiff invests in recruitment for social housing decarbonisation

The team at BRC Cardiff are investing in recruitment for social housing decarbonisation roles, following the Welsh Government’s commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Having reviewed the initial documents and strategies proposed by the Welsh Government in 2020, it is clear that decarbonisation in social housing will be a hot topic in the months to follow.

The programme to make new build housing stock more energy efficient with specially designed boilers and insulation will also be rolled out across existing social housing in South Wales.

The decarbonisation of social housing across Wales will also require replacing fossil fuel-powered systems with electric heat pumps and other forms of decarbonised heating.

This will create a high demand for Decarbonisation Manager roles within local authorities, and BRC Cardiff is already talking to line managers about their imminent requirements to ensure we provide the very best candidates.

Emma Kier, a Principal Recruitment Consultant at BRC Cardiff, commented:

“We are talking to candidates with construction and building degrees who also have experience in energy efficiency within the housing. We are also currently talking to EPC energy qualified surveyors who have backgrounds in asset management.”

BRC Cardiff is leading the way in recruitment roles for decarbonisation in social housing, and has been having a conversation with local housing associations for nearly 12 months.

“Every housing association in South Wales will need to comply with certain guidelines within the time-framed period,” said Emma.

“Decarbonisation of social housing will affect all construction within the social housing sector. That’s why we are looking at getting the recruitment in place with early planning. There are high calibre candidates in this market.”

BRC Cardiff has long-standing relationships with housing associations across Wales and will be looking to put key people in place in the coming months.

The focus will be on property services and new build development. BRC Cardiff predicts that lots of recruitment in this area will be upcoming.

“There is a real buzz in the social housing sector around the whole topic at the moment. We are also talking to BRC colleagues in Bristol about this,” concluded Emma.
