The San Antonio International Airport has introduced a new hologram-like feature called Eva. The aim of the female avatar is to inform passengers of everything they need to know to get through the screening process before boarding their flights.

Eva is a life-sized projected video image that comes to life when a traveler either passes or approaches. San Antonio International Airport is currently using two of the avatars, which are both stationed in Terminal A security lines.

Eva relays important information including protocol pertaining to identification, prohibited items, storage and divesting. She is bilingual with the ability to speak in both English and Spanish.

The city of San Antonio purchased both avatar units from a Florida-based media company for $20,000 a piece. San Antonio Airport Systems Director Frank R. Miller remarked “We're one of the first airports, if not the first airport, to have an avatar like Eva in the precheck lane for the TSA.”

According to Miller, Eva makes the airport screening process easier and also helps people focus just prior to reaching the checkpoint. He did, however, admit that reactions have been mixed among travelers.

Some immediately take to Eva, while other individuals think she’s just plain creepy.
