3 Ways to Work With Interior Brick Walls

interior painters in Orlando decorate brick wallsBrick seems to be a particularly polarizing building material – people either love it or hate it. For the most part, brick homes are considered fairly vintage, with drywall holding solid as the most popular building material around; but if you’re looking for a quaint, vintage home to call your own, there’s a good chance it’ll feature bricks somewhere. So how do you make them look their best, or hide them away?

Interior brick walls can actually be very versatile and replace the need for an accent wall in many cases, but they need the proper care and maintenance to truly shine. From your trusted interior painters in Orlando at New Ceilings, here are 3 ways to work with your interior brick:

  • Paint it. One popular trend you’ve probably seen on your Pinterest feed is painted brick. This allows you to keep the texture of brick while adjusting it to a color that better suits your palette. Paint it all one solid color, like a soft white, or mix your paint with a bit of water to give it a vintage, whitewashed effect. Be warned, however: once brick absorbs paint, it can be hard to undo.
  • Show it off. Even if you’re in love with the look of your exposed brick wall, it’ll still need some TLC to look its best. Clean the surface with a little vinegar and water, and re-grout any areas that need it, especially in bathrooms and other high-moisture areas. Then, you can seal the brick with a special sealant. To make it really stand out, choose a sealant with a glossy finish.
  • Cover it up. Not a fan of your brick walls, but don’t want to undergo a complete renovation? Brick can act as a great neutral palette for artwork, and a large mirror would break up the texture nicely. Consider using an exposed brick surface as a “gallery wall” for a modern studio feel. Make sure to use the proper masonry drills and screws to securely hang any artwork.

In a time when texture is all the rage in interior decorating, many people love exposed brick walls for their depth and patterns. But if you’re not a fan of your brick walls, don’t worry! The Orlando interior painting team at New Ceilings can provide you with a solution. To learn more or schedule a consultation, give us a call at 407-378-6040 today.
