Here Are The Remarkable Women Who Led From Front During The Republic Day Parade

Women are right alongside men in all walks of life. The brave Indian ladies are raring to take up even the combat job in the Army, an offer that is welcomed by everyone. During the Republic Day Parade, today, several notable participation from women was witnessed.

The Air Force contingent was led by Flight Lieutenant Drisya Nath from Palakkad, Kerela. She accompanied Squadron Leader Attal Singh and was followed by Flag Officer Tripti Chaturvedi. Drisya is a former engineer student who left her job at IBM to join the Air Force.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Anchal Dutt represented Indian Army on the tri-services tableau of Directorate of Veterans.

Captain Tamanna Bhasin was the contingent commander of TSAT vehicle, which is a defcom equipment providing communication to Army, Airforce and Navy.

“It is a prestigious thing being a girl to be a part of this organisation,” she said, adding that, "She was chosen based on merit and not gender."

Lieutenant Garima Kulhari represented Air Defence tableau as she commands the Akash missile launcher, which was showcased in the parade.

“Serving the nation is in itself a very big achievement and I’m very proud to be an Indian army officer,” she said.

This year, women empowerment was one of the themes of the parade and 162 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pitampura, Delhi performance a dance number on the theme, “Tiranga Sakshi Hai” to express enthusiasm over the progress of women in the country.

In 2015, the Republic Day parade featured its very first all-women contingent.
