The case was brought against Ismail and Adam Superstore Ltd, trading as Bangla Bazaar of 43 Chadderton Way, after officers from our Environmental Health Department visited on January 16.

The officers found an active uncontrolled mouse infestation, dirty walls stained with blood and the condition and cleanliness of the building and equipment to be poor.

Although the premises had a pest control contract, they had failed to follow and implement this advice on several occasions.

The hand wash basin in the rear food preparation area and the flooring throughout the premises was dirty.

A chest freezer lid was badly cracked and had been taped up with masking tape and a similar appliance was covered with dust, sawdust and general debris.

On November 19 at Oldham Magistrates’ Court Ismail and Adam Superstore Ltd pleaded guilty to six charges under the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations.

The bench imposed two separate fines of £3,000 – £6,000 in total – and the owners had to pay a total of £1,836.25.
