THE chairman of the Green Cardiff campaign set up by the city council’s deputy leader Neil McEvoy has resigned.

Sue Caldwell of Llandaff resigned following a dispute about the wording of the campaign’s key petition. She said the members of the committee had agreed to re-word it so it could be supported by people fighting to protect green spaces within Cardiff, such as the Rumney Recreation Ground and Bute Park, affected by council developments.

Yet she said she was over-ruled by Councillor McEvoy in favour of keeping the original petition, which supports the city council’s policy of banning development outside the city’s existing limits.

Mrs Caldwell is setting up a separate campaign called the Green Dragon Preservation Society and asks anyone interested to contact her at susie@cardiffcity.net.

Councillor McEvoy said that the Green Cardiff campaign would continue and was now being chaired by St Fagans community councillor Frances Lewis.

He said the existing petition had already attracted several hundred signatures with its original wording.
