Many people don’t realise, but food waste is a BIG contributor to climate change . By reducing food waste, many households can save $500 plus ½ a tonne of greenhouse gas pollution a year.
Europeans and North-Americans waste between 95-115 kg of food every year, while in sub-Saharan Africa and South/Southeast Asia the number drops down to 6-11 kg a year.
Here in Australia a STAGGERING 30% of food we buy is wasted, at an estimated national cost of $5 billion-plus a year. Cut down on waste by not letting food go out of date, avoiding over-catering and looking after any leftovers.
A great way to use up leftovers, or food that may have otherwise ended up in the bin is by turning it into a healthy, nutritious smoothie!
