Christmas 2014 isn't even here yet, but the first look at what might be next year's biggest movie of the holiday season is coming soon.

J.J. Abrams confirmed the first trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be released on Friday. The preview of the long-awaited return to a galaxy far, far away will be just 88 seconds long -- but may be worth the price of a movie ticket to some die-hard fans.

At the bottom of the note, Abrams clarifies the asterisk next to the tiny, noting the video clip will be slightly less than a minute and a half. There's also a picture of a T.I.E. fighter blowing something up, suggesting fans will get to see some action in the Episode VII preview.

As many as 100 movie theaters are expected to have the trailer in theaters, reportedly showing during the coming attractions for all movies this holiday weekend. According to Slash Film, Regal Cinemas confirmed nine theaters will have the "Star Wars 7" trailer Nov. 28-30 but none of them are in the Syracuse area -- the nearest location to Central New York is the Regal Union Square Stadium 14 theater in New York City.

Other theater chains are expected to also showcase the highly anticipated first look at the film on Black Friday, but none of have been named. The trailer is not expected to be available online until next week.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will open in theaters nationwide Dec. 18, 2015. The sequel, set some 30 years after "Return of the Jedi," will feature returning stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, plus new additions like Adam Driver, Lupita N'yongo, Oscar Isaac and Andy Serkis.
