Roo tries to drown dog, attacks owner

A man in Victoria has been attacked by a kangaroo that tried to drown his dog in a dam.

The man suffered deep cuts and scratches to the upper body and face when the rogue roo turned on him.

Paramedic Michael Vasopressin said the man had gone to rescue the dog which was being held down by the kangaroo in a dam at Arthur's Creek, northeast of Melbourne, about 9.30am (AEDT) on Monday.

"The 49-year-old dived into the dam and managed to free the dog but he was injured in the process," he said.

"He suffered a deep cut across his abdomen, a deep cut across his face and eye and a number of scratches to his chest, face and arms."

The man was admitted to the Austin Hospital in a stable condition.
