CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A 12-year-old boy remains in serious condition after he was shot once in the stomach by a Cleveland police officer, police at the scene confirmed.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been confirmed by the Cleveland Division of Police, and it's unclear whether the child was armed at the time the shooting took place.

The shooting took place about 3:30 p.m. at the Cudell Recreation Center near Detroit Avenue and West Boulevard. The boy was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in serious condition.

The shooting comes amid a 24-hour span where seven people were slain by gunfire, including a 17-year-old girl and a newborn child. A 10-year-old girl was also shot during that span.
